Slowly it transitioned into a streetcar suburb of nearby Springfield, with a trolley line and two railroads connecting the two communities. In the 1950’s the population of Ludlow exploded, in large part due to the completion of Interstate 90, also known as the Massachusetts Turnpike. Since that time the community has continued to grow, and numerous remarkable neighborhoods and subdivisions have been developed here.
